On-site application trial

A real-world field application trial of Dyofix Pond Blue Liquid has demonstrated a rapid dispersion and immediate visual enhancement at Hayfield Lakes near Doncaster.

The recent dosing was carried out at the popular fishing venue in response to a minor algae presence affecting the appearance of the lake. Although algae levels were relatively low, the trial showed an immediate improvement to the appearance of the lake and demonstrated how the pond dye performs in real fishing lake conditions.

Trial highlight points

During the visit, 10 litres of Dyofix Pond Blue Liquid was applied in two separate doses from different fishing pegs around the lake. Drone footage captured the product dispersing quickly across the water surface, creating a noticeable blue tint and improved visual uniformity.

The trial also highlighted how wind direction and application points influence dye distribution across large open-water environments.

Demonstrated in Active Wildlife Conditions

Swans and ducks remained active on the lake throughout the treatment, with no visible residue or coating observed on wildlife moving through treated areas.

The demonstration confirmed strong visual impact, predictable dispersion behaviour, and practical usability for fisheries, lakes, and larger water management projects. Further dosing is expected to provide more consistent full-lake coverage over time.

*The minimum required treatment dose for this volume of water was 5 kg. However, as the application was carried out later in the season rather than during the preferred early spring window, algal and aquatic weed growth had already begun to establish. To address this increased biological activity, we elected to apply the initial dose together with the standard monthly top-up doses in a single treatment. The principal benefits of this approach were improved light attenuation through the water column, thereby reducing light penetration to the lake bed, and the removal of the need for subsequent monthly top-up applications..

Creating a reflective surface with Pond Black

Water feature designed by Peter Dowle of Howle Hill Nursery

Mr Rhodri Jenkins of Swansea wanted a reflection pool so he recently used Dyofix Pond Black to create a beautiful reflective surface.

Mr Jenkins was very kind and sent over pictures of his new water feature, before and after the application Dyofix Pond Black.

Mr Jenkins explained that he and his family lived in a new build which is now of 7 or 8 years of age. Adjacent to their property was, how Mr Jenkins described, a ‘washing machine garden’; where broken items had been unceremoniously been placed.

He wished to convert this unattractive area into something calm and beautiful for the family to enjoy so he contacted and employed the services of award winning Peter Dowle; the head garden designer and owner of Howle Hill Nursery near Ross-on-Wye.

Peter Dowle developed a beautiful design and, with his colleagues, converted the nondescript piece of land into a beautiful water feature and surroundings for the Jenkins family to enjoy.

The icing on the cake was the application of Dyofix Pond Black which created a calm reflection pool wwith the surface mirroring the lovely Welsh sky.

Urgent delivery to Beijing

We were contacted by Alistair W Baldwin Associates, a well known and respected garden design company to supply DyoFix Pond Black. The challenge was to get the pond dye delivered to the garden site in Beijing before the 27^th August. This request came through on the 19^th August!

The National Trust at Runnymede is using Dyofix Pond Black to complete the magnificent ‘Writ in Water‘, a major architectural artwork by Mark Wallinger, in collaboration with Studio Octopi.

Writ in Water is inspired by Clause 39 of the Magna Carta, and also by the inscription on John Keats’ grave.

Situated at Runneymede, the award winning building celebrates the legacy of the Magna Carta using skylight and water, to reflect the words contained within Clause 39.

Mark Wallinger, the designer, comments: ‘In Writ in Water, the use of reflection to make the text legible plays against the idea of a law written in stone. Magna Carta curtailed this divine right and issued the first secular writ.’
